AADI(Attapadi Adivasi Development Initiatives)
Attapadi is positioned in the mid-eastern part of Kerala on the north-east of Palakkad district, connecting Coimbatore and Nilgiri districts of Tamil Nadu. The occupants of Attapady comprises tribesfolk and non-tribesfolk. Tribesfolk of Attapady is the most backward among the defenceless groups of Kerala. Their economy is ritualistic in nature, depending largely on land and forest. The plight of tribes folk proceeds to be steeped in the morass of ignorance, illiteracy and poverty.
The major hurdle to evolution in Attapady is the poverty resulting from extreme depletion of natural resources. This affliction led the tribes to ratify and perpetuate unsustainable practices in agriculture and involved in the illegal liquor businesses which demolish huge tracts of forestland. Attapady has long hurted from such short –sighted withdrawal by its own inhabitants. Malnutrition and infant deaths are indications of a vicious cycle of povery.
AADI guides and empower the tribal population in their upward potency. Sustainable living, enriched environment, enhanced quality of life and human values, which are all included under the Project. Improvements in quality of life through various expansion activities including health, literacy and moral development are all significant steps in the right direction towards sustainable livelihood.
